Tulane's Sex-Based Precision Medicine Symposium Highlights Groundbreaking Research

Last week, Tulane University's Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Sex-Based Precision Medicine hosted its 2025 Annual Symposium, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and students for a day of insightful presentations and networking. The symposium, held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Tidewater Auditorium, showcased advancements in understanding sex differences in health and disease.


The event featured compelling plenary lectures by Dr. Andrea Dunaif and Dr. Shalender Bhasin. Dr. Dunaif, Lillian and Henry M. Stratton Professor of Molecular Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Health System, presented on "Deconstructing a Syndrome: Genomic Insights into PCOS Causal Mechanisms and Classification". Dr. Bhasin, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Research Program in Men's Health: Aging and Metabolism at Brigham and Women's Hospital, discussed "Testosterone Therapy in Men and Women".


The symposium began with an introduction to the Center of Excellence in Sex-Based Precision Medicine by its Director, Dr. Franck Mauvais-Jarvis. Throughout the day, attendees benefited from a diverse range of talks by internal and external speakers. Presentations covered topics such as "Sex-Dependent ACE2 Ubiquitination in Hypertension" by Dr. Eric Lazartigues from LSU Health and "Activating adipocyte leptin signaling: a male specific pathway" by Dr. Eric Belin de Chantemèle from Augusta University. The symposium reinforced Tulane's commitment to advancing sex-based precision medicine and fostering innovative research in the field.
